What the honey moon phase is

The honey moon phase is when your body is still making some insulin. So once it's over your completely dependent on your shots insulin. So let's just say the honey moon phase is well a time when if you mess up it won't effect you as much. But once it's over boy if you make a mistake you are going to see a dramatic change.

What a shock!

I  woke up this morning and checked my blood sugar. I was only at 138.But I didn't eat breakfast. So some hours later its 10:45 I check my blood sugar so I can eat an early lunch. Guess what my blood sugar levels are at?! 444! It really surprised me. I had to take 9 units of insulin for only a sandwich and a cookie! Well I guess the honey moon phase is over! (Ha Ha Ha) Life's going to get a little harder.

what are ketones and are they bad for me?

Are ketones bad for me and what are they? I ask myself well this is what I found out.

There are two ways to look at ketones. Here, we are concerned with certain ketones (also called ketone bodies) in the human body, but for the record, a ketone is "a compound containing a carbonyl functional group bridging two groups of atoms" according to Anne Marie Helmenstine, About.com's Guide to Chemistry

There are a number of ketones in the human body, but the ones we are concerned with are generated during fat metabolism. They can be used by most of the cells in the body for energy. Notably, the brain can use ketones for about 70-75% of its energy needs. Ketones are most likely to be generated under certain conditions. That is what ketones are sometimes there good sometimes there bad.  But if my blood sugars over 300 I have to check for ketones.

what is type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is when your body stops making insulin. But I’m in the honey moon phase. That’s when my body still makes some. But after that I will be making no insulin. Insulin is very important keeps you alive. I keep thinking if I were born in a different time I would be dead. I am so thankful I was born in this time period and that we know how to control diabetes.

Being diagnosed with diabetes

It was a real shocker when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed last Tuesday and I am only still 11 years old. I had to stay overnight at a hospital in Marshfield. I got no sleep that night. I am at a week of being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It has been a challenging week. I haven’t been able to eat my usual snacks and have been eating lots of cheese and summer sausage. But now I give myself most of my shots and take my own blood sugar levels.
I may have diabetes but my diabetes doesn’t have me
